VISA (English)
Japanese citizens in possession of a valid Japanese passport do not need a visa for airport transit, tourist or business trips (for stays up to 90 days) to Germany. However, the validity of their passport has to last until at least three months after the intended date of departure from Germany. The passport must have been issued within the previous 10 years.
Visa applications can only be submitted to the representation responsible for your place of residence. If you have only recently arrived in Japan and/or are only staying here temporarily or have been here for less than six months or – if applicable - do not have a corresponding Japanese residence permit, you must apply at a diplomatic mission of your previous place of residence.
If you are resident in the district of the Embassy Tokyo, it is not possible to apply for a visa at the Consulate General Osaka-Kobe or vice versa.
The original valid passport must be presented with the application documents on the day of the booked application appointment. We will keep the passport during the examination of your visa application. If you need the passport after you have submitted your application and while the application is being processed, please submit an informal written explanation (German/English) when you submit your application and your passport will be returned to you. However, the passport must be returned at our request.
