Please note, the documents asked within the Consular Services Portal might not be the documents you can provide for the language course as the category is normally for people who want to study in Germany.

Nevertheless, as application at the German Embassy is only possible via the Consular Services Portal we use this category so you might be able to apply for the language course only.

If the documents do not correspond with the documents you have for the language course and it is required to upload the document, please upload a document just with the information "not applicable".

And if you have to add additional document, please upload with the correct description.

The documents you have to upload beside the application, passport, proof of residence, are 

Letter of the Language School in Germany: Language course confirmation letter (Anmeldebestätigung) including information on the period of the language course, hours per week, skills level and whether the course fee has already been paid

Please note: The language course must be for at least 18 hours per week; a course only at the weekends or at the evenings does not qualify for a permit of stay for language course.

Motivation letter: A personal letter of motivation in German or English explaining in detail why you want to study German, what you expect from learning German and how the language skills you will acquire will help your personal development/professional career. 

German language certificates: Proof of your current knowledge of German, if applicable.

For example, confirmation of previous German language course attendance, certificates, etc.

If you have not attended a German language course before: a detailed explanation of why you have not been able to attend a language course in Japan or abroad.

Curriculum vitae (in English, or German tabular form)

Funds: Proof of sufficient funds of at least EUR 1,091 per month of stay (subject to change). Please note that only a blocked account and NO alternative proof of funds will be accepted. Information about opening a blocked account you find here.
