Residence Visa / Long Stay Visa

Fast 77 000 hochqualifizierte Zuwanderer aus Nicht-EU-Ländern konnten bisher mit einer sogenannten Blauen Karte in Deutschland arbeiten. A residence visa has to be applied for if you intend to stay in Germany for more than 90 days. If, for example, you want to work or study in Germany or if you intend to move to Germany with your spouse, you have to apply for this type of visa.
If you intend to stay in Germany for more than 90 days, you have to apply for a residence visa. This type of visa has to be applied for if, for example, you are interested to work or study in Germany or if you would like to permanently join your spouse in Germany.
Citizens of Japan, Australia, Canada, Israel, New Zealand, South Korea, Switzerland, the United States of America, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland as well as EU citizens may apply for their residence permit after entering Germany without a visa.
Citizens of other countries are required to apply and obtain a residence permit prior to entry (an option also open to Japanese citizens) at the German Embassy or the German Consulate.
