At the German Embassy Tokyo and the Consulate General Osaka-Kobe you can now submit your visa application for the
online in the new Consular Services Portal of the Federal Foreign Office to have it checked in advance to ensure that your file is complete.
After uploading your documents online, they are examined for completeness by the competent German mission, which will inform you once the pre-examination is successfully completed so that you are then able to book your in-person appointment. In this way, you will be optimally prepared for the in-person appointment at the German mission in Japan in whose jurisdiction you reside. During your appointment you need to provide your biometric data (fingerprints and photo), as well as certain documents in their original form.

Please be informed that the Consular Services Portal at the moment is accessible in German and English.
Who can apply via the Consular Services Portal?
Please note that the Consular Services Portal is currently only available to a certain category of visas. Please only use the Consular Services Portal if you want to apply for a visa category mentioned in the A column below. Applicants who wish to obtain a visa mentioned in the B column cannot use the Consular Services Portal but need to follow the regular visa procedure.
A: Visa applicants who CAN use the Consular Services Portal
- Skilled Workers with a German or foreign recognised / comparable university degree* and domestic (German) employment contract:

B: Visa applicants who CANNOT use the Consular Services Portal
- Workers being seconded by their company to Germany without a domestic (German) employment contract:
