What are the visa fees?
Schengen (C) or Airport transit (A) visa:
90,00 EUR
45,00 EUR for children between the age of six and 12 years
Free of charge for children under the age of six years
National (D) visa:
75,00 EUR
37,50 EUR for children under the age of 19 years
Fees can be waived or reduced for certain categories of applicants. Please see details below.
Following a decision of the European Council regarding the cooperation on readmission with The Gambia, visas fees for Gambian nationals have been set at €120. Visa fees for children under the age of 12 years remain unchanged.
How can I pay my fee?
Your visa fees need to be paid at the time of application, directly at the counter.
Option 1: Payment in cash in Japanese Yen (only). The fee in Euro is charged according to the official exchange rate of the German Mission on the date of your application.
Option 2: Cashless payment in EURO -
The German Embassy in Tokyo accepts Mastercard or Visa credit card (must be activated internationally). Please note, that additional fees of your bank may apply.
You must have the actual card with you. The named card holder must be present to sign the debit voucher.
Digital wallet or mobile payments including Apple Pay or Google Pay are not available.
Please note that cashless payment at the German Consulate General Osaka-Kobe is not possible.
Can visa fees be reimbursed?
Visa fees are processing fees.
They are payable as soon as your visa application is submitted. Visa fees will not be reimbursed should your application be denied or should you decide to withdraw your application.
Fee waivers
Please note: Only on the day of the visa application will we confirm if the visa fee will be waived.
- General fee waivers
Visa fees are waived for spouse, same-sex partners in a civil union and minor children of German citizens, parents of minor German citizens and family members of EU/EEA nationals, provided they enjoy freedom of movement. Original (and one copy) of marriage certificate/birth certificate and copy of passport of the EU/German citizen has to be submitted on the day of the application. - For Schengen visa:
Visa fees are waived by all Schengen states for the following categories of persons, regardless of their nationaliy:- children under six years
- foreign exhjbitors at German trade fairs on presentation of the trade fair pass as exhibitor and name of applicant
- School pupils, undergraduates, postgraduates and accompanying teaching staff who travel for the purpose of study or training
- representatives of non-profit organisations aged 25 years or younger participating in seminars, conferences, sports, cultural or educational events organised by non-profit organisations
- researchers from third countries travelling within the European Community for the purpose of carrying out scientific research as defined in Recommendation 2005/761/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 28 September 2005
- for the "replacement" of an old, valid visa in a "full" travel document (one that has no empty pages) with a new visa valid for the sam period in the applicant's new travel document
- For national visa:
Foreign nationals receiving a scholarship from public funds during their stay in Germany, as well as their spouse or partner and minor children as long as they are covered by the funding
Members of the diplomatic missions, consular posts and international organisations in Germany, as well as their spouse and children up to and including the age of 25
